Another helicopter capture, this time high in the clouds during the Helifishing trip.
No matter how many times I go in a helicopter, I just can’t wipe the smile off my face!

Whilst at the mouth of the Mary River, approximately a 40km run downstream from Shady Camp Billabong in the Northern Territory a large wet season Thunderstorm threatened to end the day’s fishing for Barramundi.
Whilst the wind got up a bit and we had some light rain, we were lucky in that it passed on by.
You can see a number of boats trolling the mouth and out to sea for Barramundi and Threadfin Salmon. Pretty slow day for fishing, but some great scenery.

On the way back from a day’s Helifishing beyond the Daly River region we were faced with some imposing Thunderstorms.
We tried to go round, but no matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t get past. So in the end we had to land in a station paddock and wait it out.
This is a pic of the second chopper over the flood plains to the south of Darwin.

Whilst on a Barramundi fishing trip on the Mary River near Shady Camp this outcrop of Pandanus Palms had been flooded by the wet season floods.
I couldn’t resist a quick photo, so put down the fishing rod for a second or two and took this shot.
Whilst you can’t see it in the photo, just to the left of this was a large saltwater crocodile.
A magic spot, just a pity the Barra weren’t on the chew that day!

Red Cliffs on the coast west of Daly River in the NT
Whilst flying to a remote creek in the Helicopter on the Helifish trip we passed a line of Red Cliffs west of the Daly River Mouth. On the way back I decided to grab a few frames of this amazing scenery in a spectacular part of the country.
I managed this shot over the pilots shoulder as we passed by at around 200km/hr!
A typical wet season Thunderstorm is just brewing in the distance beyond the point towards the Daly River mouth.
Would love to get back there one day to set up the gear properly with a tripod and more time.

Another perspective of the two lone mangroves clinging to the mud out the front of the creek we were fishing whilst on the Helifish adventure in the Northern Territory.
Also shot in the middle of the day I decided to process this one a bit for dramatic effect using a bleaching process.

Approaching thunder storm in the Daly River region of the Northern Territory.
Just got back from a boys fishing trip out of Darwin.
Had the lucky pleasure of spending a day Helifishing beyond the Daly River region to the south west of Darwin.
In between casting lures I managed a few hand held shots with the 17-40L lens.
This one is of two lone mangrove trees out in the front of a little creek system with an approaching thunderstorm in the distance.
Given it was shot in the middle of the day when the light was quite harsh I decided to do it in black and white. This also had the added advantage of really making the cloud formations stand out.
The chosen crop breaks some of the rules, but I like the effect so decided sometimes rules are meant to be broken…
